Learn more about Jon Broome

Dr Jon Broome provides practical advice, training and workshops to help organisations deliver their projects more successfully. As well as being a recognised expert practitioner on the NEC contract family and on contracts & procurement for projects & programmes, he is also an accomplished facilitator with many of his larger assignments combining all three skills.

A trained civil engineer, Jon also gained the world's first PhD in the applied use of NEC. Working for construction and heavy engineering clients,  contractors and consultants throughout the world,  he often works with senior management to develop 'fit for purpose' commercial and contractual arrangements to deliver successful projects. Often, but not always, this leads into using the NEC family of contracts where he can write, review and improve the contract documentation.

However, developing contracts is only part of the success story :

  • training the delivery team on what the contract says and in particular how to implement it successfuly is a skill where Jon has developed a reputation as a knowlegeable, pragmatic and engaging trainer.
  • in many projects, the team comes from numerous organisations with different aims, cultures and systems. As a facilitator, Jon combines 'hard' project management processes with applied psychology to rapidly build high performing project teams.

Jon works with both the public and private sectors, including well-known national contractors alongside smaller regional contractors. He has delivered innovative ground breaking commercial solutions in the defence, aerospace, ship building and coal-mining sectors.

“Put simply, our contracts go better when Jon Broome helps set them up by running a start-up workshop, as the two or more organisations start working as ‘one project team’ much faster”

Contracts & Procurement

Successful projects are almost always delivered collaboratively, so it makes sense that the commercial framework which underpins the selection process & contracts aligns  participants towards the same goals. Participants can then focus on working together vs fighting their own contractual corner. Jon is an expert in such commercial frameworks and works with his clients to develop them.
